Each year our school chooses one design topic to study, and a project that requires us to work as a team. This year we studied architecture. We learned how to describe the things we liked or didn't like about the man-made structures in our environment. We learned about cities around the world that have beautiful architecture, and cities that...well....could use a few lessons. Then, each student chose
one famous architect to research and one famous building to research. Some students made models of their research projects, some drew pictures and one made a delicious cake in the shape of St. Basil's Cathedral to share with everyone for our Presentation Day celebration. But, the best thing we did was to design and build our own treehouse! Kids measured, drilled, cut, levelled and worked as a team to complete this group project. It is two stories high with a slide and staircase connecting the two levels. Because it is built on a slope the view from the top is amazing! Now we have a cool hang out for recess and for reading. Within a few days the tree canopy provided shade. Ahhhh...perfect!
